Causes

Maintaining incorrect sitting, standing, or walking postures for extended periods, especially poor postures like looking down, bending over, or rounded shoulders, can easily lead to hunchback.

Lack of adequate exercise, particularly insufficient strengthening of back and core muscles, leads to weakness and imbalance in spinal muscles, increasing the risk of hunchback. It could also be genetic, as some individuals may have a higher genetic predisposition to developing hunchback.

Impacts

Hunchback causes uneven pressure distribution in the spine, increasing stress on spinal structures and intervertebral discs, which can lead to pain and degeneration. It can also cause breathing difficulties, as hunchback compresses the lungs, affecting lung capacity and function, making breathing harder.

Hunchback can also affect the position and movement of internal organs, leading to digestive problems such as heartburn and constipation. Due to its unsightly appearance, it can also negatively impact mental health, leading to decreased self-confidence, increased anxiety, and stress.

Improvement Methods

Correct sitting and standing posture: Maintaining correct sitting and standing posture is key to improving hunchback. You should keep your chest up and head held high, relax your shoulders, tighten your abdomen, and allow your spine to maintain its natural curve.

Spinal stretching and strengthening exercises: Performing spinal stretching and strengthening exercises can improve the balance and strength of spinal muscles, such as back extensions, plank exercises, and core muscle training.

Mind your sitting and standing time: When sitting or standing for long periods, take regular breaks to do some stretching exercises to relieve spinal pressure.

Use assistive devices: Appropriately using spinal braces, hunchback correctors, or back support belts can provide support and reminders to help improve posture.

Hunchback Shoulder and Neck Stretching Exercise

Step 1: Straighten your back, interlock your left hand with your right hand behind your back, and place them at your right waist.

Step 2: Slowly tilt your head to the right and hold for 30 seconds.

Step 3: Slowly tilt your head diagonally downwards and hold for another 30 seconds.

Step 4: You can adjust the direction of your head or the position of your chin according to your personal feeling. After completing one side, repeat the same movements on the other side.
